Hi,

It’s you friendly neighbor fanfic author here. In the light of this apparent new trend of people feeding unfinished fics to AI to get an “ending,” and some people even talking about “blanket permissions,” let me just say this:

I EXPLICITLY FORBID ANYONE TO FEED MY FICS TO AI. DUDE, THAT IS ABOUT THE LEAST RESPECTFUL THING YOU CAN DO. IF YOU DO IT, SHALL YOU BE EXCOMMUNICATED FROM YOUR FANDOM AND WALK ON LEGOS BAREFOOT TILL THE END OF DAYS.

That is my anti-permission.

Thank you for your attention.

Pinned Post i'm swapping my beloved pinned post out for this one honestly. it's worth it [a bit tearful] reblog

tw: canadian residential schools and genocide

if you live on “canadian” territory and participated in canada day celebrations today, i want you to seriously reconsider your point of view as a settler in Turtle Island (North America). remember last year when there was such a huge outcry for the #cancelcanadaday and #noprideingenocide movements following the recovery of 751 unmarked children's graves? (notice how i didn't say discovery because indigenous peoples have known that those graves were always there?)

yeah well anyways, where's that same energy this year when the truth and reconciliation report is estimating there are over 3200 unmarked graves out there? i KNEW that everything that happened last year would mostly end up being false allyship. most of the canada day events were cancelled because of covid not because people gave a damn about mourning indigenous trauma.

if you were an actual ally, this would have been front and centre of your minds today. if you were an actual ally, you would have worn orange and black instead of red and white. if you were an actual ally, you would have donated your money to indigenous organizations instead of purchasing frivolous Canada day products.

celebrating canada day celebrates colonialism, genocide and stolen land. end of story.

if you are one of my followers and have no idea what i am talking about i encourage you to read more about residential schools in canada and the 60s scoop as a starting point! support indigenous organizations and businesses if you are able!

i'm not going to sit around here today and let this slide without saying anything. i'm not celebrating canada day and never will, not after the canadian government institutionalized to "kill the indian in the child." not after knowing what my grandmother would have experienced in those institutions.

You might think that I'm joking when I say that we need cyborg rights to be codified into law, but I honestly think that, given the pace of development of medical implants and the rights issues raised by having proprietary technologies becoming part of a human body, I think that this is absolutely essential for bodily autonomy, disability rights, and human rights more generally. This has already become an issue, and it will only become a larger issue moving forwards.

mmeveronica

No but seriously we need cyborg rights, in case you don't know how many people count as cyborgs here are some examples;

  • People with cochlear implants are cyborgs
  • People with pacemakers are cyborgs
  • People with insulin pumps are cyborgs

There are even edge cases revolving around how much electricity and integration into the body are necessary to make someone a cyborg.

  • People with replacement hips or other bones are by some definitions cyborgs
  • People with implanted medical devices such as artificial valves or stents are by some definitions cyborgs
  • People with prosthetic limbs are by some definitions cyborgs
  • People with ostomy bags are by some definitions cyborgs
  • People in wheel chairs, electric or not, are by some definitions cyborgs

The list could go on but I think I made my point that cyborgs are a lot more than just people with robot arms, they are the disabled deserving of the rights to the technology their lives literally depend on.

andreathemagpie

This is needed.

Earlier this year, a woman was forcibly deprived of a brain implant that was treating her epilepsy because the company that made the implant went bankrupt. Here's a link to one of several articles about it:

spacecatsunited

This story happened back in the 2010s according to the first article but is still relevant. Also if my cochlears were repossessed by the company for some asinine reason I would literally stop being able to do 80% of the things I do and my future would be ruined. Cyborg rights are necessary and should have been codified decades ago

elfwreck

This was in 2020, and the patients weren't even informed of it - one day their eyes just stopped working because the company that made them went out of business.

jesus fucking christ we NEED to start NOW get the jump on it... somewhat early. not early enough. we should've started earlier but we shouldn't wait until something earth changing happens reblog

Everytime I see posts like this I get filled with such profound sadness

Cause you know who has the same brainrot as you? The same unhinged feelings as you after you've read the fic? The person who always wants to scream about the fic with you?

THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT

I never used to leave comments but since I got into the habit of commenting on everything i enjoy it's been incredible. Especially when the author gets back to me about it and we get to have a discussion of what other ideas they had. One writer replied to my comment with a 5 paragraph essay detailing the Floorplan of the building the characters lived in and it was incredible

Anyways this is all to say that if you find a fic that just makes you want to scream from the rooftops, leave a comment saying that to the author and maybe they will join you and you can scream incoherently together

Please remember that creative people are people first and creators second.

Whatever they create is amazing, but you must remember that they are not content machines; they are real people with real feelings. Being treated like a content machine doesn’t make anyone feel good; only being appreciated when you create doesn’t feel good; having your self-worth tied to how much you create doesn’t make anyone feel good.

Remember to appreciate these people as people first and creatives second. The creation is special because the person who made it is special. The person isn’t special just because they create.

This is especially relevant when it comes to strangers with creativity that you enjoy, but it also applies to how you treat your friends with creative skills.

Your friends don’t exist just to make things for you. Your friends may create things for you because they love you, but that should not be the sole reason you love them.

Please remember to be kind to creative individuals.

"Issue #24: Lost in a Haze"

Oh! What's that? Another POV? Yes, it's true! Rainhaze gets his turn in the narration. It was a lot of fun to explore his mind, though it's easy to over-write. Rainhaze is very rambly.

I also hope you enjoy getting a peek into Defiance's inner workings. I will elaborate a bit more on the branch system and hierarchy in some bonus posts eventually, but there's nothing outside the comic that's required for understanding it simply by reading the issues.

Since Rainhaze jumps around in time a lot via his scattered mental state, for ease of reading I'll just state that pages 5 & 6 take place directly after the end of Issue 24, i.e. when Rainhaze killed the fox and Ranger confronted him.
